This is a rather unusual set of pictures in that all three were taken looking north from the same place. This was at one
time Brampton's main intersection, Queen and Main Streets and the location was known to all as the "Four Corners". From the vintage of the automobiles,
the first photo must have been taken in the early
1930's. The postcard provided by Brampton resident Tom Thompson.
By co-incidence the second photo is another post card, this one likely taken in the early 40's. On the corner to the
right of the intersection was now Hill's Men's Wear store. It had a very modern store-front of green and black glass tiles. The card was supplied by
Brampton resident Bill King, who identified the manager of the store, a Mr. Harry Sproule, as the man standing in front of the store. Harry was there
just in time to have his image recorded for posterity.
In accordance with the tradition, photographer Rob Salisbury took his picture from that same spot. By 1989,
the older building had been replaced by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Bank Manager Chris Bogle kindly agreed to come out for our picture
and strike the same pose as Harry Sproule. Brampton residents will know that this same location now is again vastly different in appearance.
